I was writing on how ideas emerge. I am digesting.
To write a performance. To perform a text.
To embody my master thesis.
Se mettre à nu.
A methodology to produce absurdity
Last year Cécile Bally wrote her master thesis in decision theory on how ideas emerge, develop and blend into a piece in a creative process in contemporary dance. As a good inductive student, she created a model based on her understanding of the data in order to extract herself from them. This year Bally is doing a solo on last year’s master thesis with this year’s body trying to embody last year. To bring back her model into a body, to eat the paper, to embody conventional shapes of academic writing.
Cécile Bally is finishing her studies in Dance, Context, Choreography at the Inter-University Centre for Dance Berlin. She previously studied Economics and Management in France where she wrote a master thesis in decision theory on how ideas emerge and develop in dance rehearsal processes. Currently Bally is amongst others researching on points of meeting in between her academic research practice and her performance practice. Her work has been presented at Tanzfabrik Berlin, Bauhaus Dessau, Uferstudios Berlin and INZUCHT Festival.
