In Abecedarium Bestiarium Antonia Baehr has invited her friends to write short pieces for her, based on an ABC of extinct animals: D is for Dodo, T is for Tasmanian tiger, S is for Steller’s sea cow and so on. The authors choose an extinct animal that they feel strongly about. This brings about heterogenous choreographic miniatures in which they reflect their respective affinity to the chosen animal as well as their friendship to Antonia Baehr.

Despite the idea of the artist as a genius, every solo work emerges out of social relations and exchange. Consequently, behind Baehr’s alphabet is an authorship of the heterogeneous many!

Cecilie Ullerup Schmidt, Artistic Director of WAW

Antonia Baehr is Berlin-based choreographer who is characterized by her non-disciplinary work and a method of collaboration with different people, using a game-structure with switching roles: each person is alternately director / author / host and performer / guest for the other one. Antonia Baehr is the producer of the horse whisperer and dancer Werner Hirsch, the musician and choreographer Henri Fleur, and the composer Henry Wilt. Her book “Abecedarium Bestiarium – Portraits of affinities in animal metaphors” came out in January 2014.
